The Dance Teacher Class Descriptions

Level I ages 2-3
Level II ages 4-5
Level III ages 6-8
Level IV ages 8-12
Level V ages nine(with directors approval)
adult Level VI ages pre teen adult

Primary for the late beginner or students wishing to take full technique instead of Level III exploring dance

Preschool Motor Movement
Level I
A 30minute once a week non‐stop creative movement class designed for the younger child. Focus is on directions, color identification, gross motor skills, memory, music and fun.

Creative Movement
Level II
A 45 minute once a week class designed specifically for the pre- K to Kindergarten aged child. This program focuses on right and left definition, counting music, basic arm and simple feet positions, sequencing, color identification, and most importantly
following directions!

Exploring Dance
Level III
This class begins with a tap segment introducing the 6 basic steps. These skills enhance rhythms and sounds in al basic dance styles. Ballet positions and technique are presented in this program as well. This program works on memory, placement and understanding of dance styles. Students will present whichever dance style the class excels in for the spring concert.

For the late beginner: (Level III students may take these classes)

Primary Ballet

This class develops general body awareness, and control coordinating with elementary technique and terminology. This is a 60 minute class that slowly introduces the barre and technique

work. Strengthening skills are introduced through fun and movement.

Primary Tap

Our tap programs build on the tap basics and develop progressive combinations. Perfect program to assure you have good clean strong sounds.

Levels IV VI

Ballet

Ballet is the most demanding form of dance. Because of the precise execution of movement, aiming for perfection, this discipline demands strength, excellent coordination, determination and ability for artistic expressions. It is the foundation for all performing art styles.

Level IV
Understanding the relationship between music, rhythm and controlled movement with proper ballet technique. This is a 60 minute class

Level V

New and more complex material will be taught at an accelerated pace. Student will begin to learn basic ballet history and develop a knowledge and great appreciation of the great ballets, classical music and famous dancers. This is a 90 minute class

Level VI
An advanced class combining skills from previous level classes and correlating steps to lengthy and complex combinations with] correct technique, extensive terminology and knowledge of the art of ballet itself. This is a 90 minute class

Demi Pointe
Level V
This class may be taken by students who are not yet on Pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go on Pointe and must be taken with at least two full ballet techniques per week.

Pointe
Level VI
Dancers attend a 30 minute strengthening class following their upper level ballet technique each week. 60 minute classes are held to advance technique, strength and grace while en Pointe and are assigned based upon ability. This class must be taken with two ballet classes per week.

Contemporary ballet
Level VI
A 90 minute class combining ballet technique and fitness demands that is enhanced with modern and lyrical expression.

Tap
Levels V
VI a 60 minute class that is a study of dance where you, the performer, become the percussion instrument. Rhythm patterns for the feet including, standard time steps, percussive styles and rhythms through the more complicated steps of the Tap repertoire.
Classes emphasize the development and strengthening of basic tap technique and terminology highlighting the importance of rhythm and sound.

Tap Jazz (ballet class required to take this class)
Level
‘s IV –VI A 60 minute Broadway style class incorporating the fundamentals of both tap and jazz.

Jazz

Level V-VI
To assure students receive a well rounded base for this ever changing venue the Classic theater/Broadway jazz is our greatest emphasis. We believe in giving students a taste of all the great dance styles and history from Luigi style jazz to the ever changing Street jazz/hip hop.

For Adults Only Dance Fitness for Fun
These classes run as short term sessions (12 weeks). Registration is due no later than two weeks prior to the start date. Fees must be paid at the time of registration and apply only to the session for which you have registered. Complimentary classes will be offered the last two weeks of August for parents of students registered at The Dance Teacher.

Morning Resistance Band Workout

This 45‐minute program utilizes resistance bands, ballet strengthening exercises and is complimented with basic ballet barre work and stretches. Focus is on posture/alignment, increasing flexibility and stamina. A core based fitness program.

Dance Fitness and Stress Reduction

A Unique 60 minute program that utilizes contemporary dance to create warm up and movement routines to assist in fitness as well as stress reduction.
